Mosquitoes
Appearance
1/8” to 3/8” dark grayish in color. Two wings.
Habitat
Mosquitoes feed off blood. They lay eggs in water therefore it is imperative to eliminate stagnant water on your property. They are attracted to the CO2 emitted by humans, and are found in warm areas. Africa is one of the most widespread areas with mosquito activity.
How do they affect you?
They can transmit harmful diseases such as the well known West Nile Virus. 2 million people die a year in the world from diseases transmitted from mosquitoes.
What can we do?
We strongly recommend standing water must be eliminated on your property, which will prevent them from breeding. Birdbaths, old tires and clogged gutters areas are a few common mosquito breeding areas. Seitz Brothers Pest Control uses a dual method of treatment. First I apply a larvaecide to all standing water on and adjacent to your property to stop mosquitoes from emerging. Then apply a pyrethrum(for an instant knockdown effect which breaks down in sunlight in about 2 to 4 hours) and residue to all trees, shrubs, and shaded places where mosquitoes rest and hide. Depending on conditions this residue continues to be effective one week to a month.
Ticks
Appearance
3/16” flat appearance, with 8 legs.
Habitat
Ticks enjoy damp shaded areas. They will commonly be found around the eco-tone (grass edge, where lawn meets tree line) of your property. They will climb a tree or plant, and wait for a host to pass by. The back of the neck is the most common area to find a tick.
How do they affect you?
Ticks carry harmful disease such as Lyme disease. This disease if not caught in early stages can alter your brains functions, nerves, joints and heart. Extreme cases can cause paraplegia.
What can we do?
To prevent contracting a tick, stay in open areas with cut grass. If hiking, wear long pants and choose wide trails. Always inspect your body after returning inside. Treat any pets you have with frontline or similar product. Contact us for lawn treatment estimate.
