Asbestos Inside Structures

Asbestos Ceiling Tiles

The type of asbestos that is normally found within asbestos ceiling tiles is known as Amosite, and it is chosen for the fire retardant properties that it has. There is another popular form of asbestos found within ceiling tiles, which is known as Chrysotile. Asbestos is not capable of being visually identified, so when dealing with ceiling tiles that were installed before the year 1981, it would be wise to remove all the ceiling tiles. Seitz Bros asbestos ceiling removal service can help keep you safe if asbestos fibers are present. Homeowners should not remove asbestos ceiling tiles themselves, but rather contact us so we can replace the ceiling or ceiling tiles without causing harm or damage in the process.

Asbestos Floor Tiles

Many buildings still contain asbestos floor tiles or other forms of asbestos flooring. Regular washing, stripping, waxing and buffing techniques used on these asbestos floors is not going to release asbestos in any dangerous level. There are a number of specific rules and processes that need to be abided by in order to prevent the release of  asbestos and safely remove asbestos from your home. When the asbestos flooring is treated properly and kept in good condition, there is no reason why it cannot continue to function without causing harm to the people that inhabit the building. When buffing asbestos floor tiles, you should only do it when there is enough of a finish on the flooring that the pad is not going to be capable of making contact with the material containing the asbestos.

Additionally, broken and damaged asbestos floor tiles should be removed by Seitz Bros. rather than the homeowner or a regular contractor. Exercising these cautions is vitally important to making sure that the asbestos floor removal is safe rather than harmful toward the people that live or operate within the building. When precautions are taken to keep a building safe, those within it can be kept safe as well.

Asbestos Pipe Insulation

Typically, a boiler is insulated with a "mud-like" material that is manually packed on a boiler surface to insulate it and keep it more efficient. This material was usually not sold "ready to use" and was required to be mixed on-site. Therefore the amount of asbestos that was actually mixed in to the mud-like material varies. This material was also used on pipe fittings (elbows, tees, etc.)

Pipe insulation was sold in preformed sections about three feet long. A very common application was a corrugated material that had asbestos material applied between the layers of cardboard. This material was called "Air-Cell". In most cases, a cloth was wrapped around the insulation and light-weight metal bands were installed to secure the insulation to pipe. We sometimes see Air-Cell used as boiler insulation also. Asbestos insulation should absolutely be removed before the pipes can be decontaminated from asbestos.
